Welcoming the decision Mary Hanafin T.D. Minister for Social and Family Affairs said ‘I am delighted that the plans have progressed to this stage. This is a very important milestone in the proud history of the school.’
Plans by the School Board to replace the original school building with a modern, quality new building suitable for the growing numbers of pupils attending the school were advanced when Mary Hanafin was Minister for Education and Science.
‘The development is a credit to the Board of Management, staff, parents and students and is recognition of the role the school continues to play in the community’ she added.
Last month Minister Hanafin launched an exhibition in Dun Laoghaire County Hall of an ambitious stone carving project with students, staff and parents in the school. Students trained as stone-carvers in order to make a six metre limestone frieze representing the spirit and scope of Newpark past and present. The frieze will adorn the new school building on completion.
