The Nursing Homes Support Scheme, also known as Fair Deal, will be open to applications from Tuesday, 27 October 2009. Read more about it in Nursing Homes Support Scheme.

People already in residential care can also apply, and choose whether the new scheme or their existing subvention is a better option for them.

Applications to become 'care representatives' under the scheme opened on Monday, 5 October 2009. Contact the HSE Infoline on 1850 24 1850, Monday to Saturday 8am to 8pm.

The Scheme of Community Support for Older People provides funding for initiatives to improve security and social support to vulnerable older people by providing door locks and alarms. The scheme is administered by local community and voluntary groups who can apply for funding from the Department of Community, Rural and Gealtacht Affairs.

Any voluntary or community-based organisation working with or providing support for vulnerable older people can apply for funding under the Scheme. Community groups are required to satisfy themselves as to the eligibility of each applicant by visiting applicants in their home.

The maximum payable to any organisation/group in any one year cannot exceed €30,000.
